ABSTRACT
Water is a fundamental prerequisite for the life of living beings on Earth and they can live normally only when they consume quality water and in sufficient quantities. Groundwater is and remains an object of exploitation for drinking water. In recent decades, its quality has been worrying, and this is due to human activity. This paper aims to assess the quality of groundwater in the territory of the Municipality of Suharekë. For this purpose, 16 water samples were taken from dug and drilled wells used by the community for various purposes, from which the physical and chemical parameters of the water were analyzed. The groundwater analyzed in this study area generally showed parametric values within the standards for their use for drinking water. The water quality index was calculated using the Weight Arithmetic Water Quality Index method, showing that the quality of groundwater is mainly excellent with a tendency for quality to decline. The study also distinguished seven hydrochemical types of water, the most representative of which are the hydrochemical types: Ca-Mg-HCO3- CO3 and Mg-Ca- HCO3- CO3.
