ABSTRACT
The paper provides an overview of the literature on the various techniques for utilising ammonia for fuelling transport means. It discusses the properties of ammonia used in internal combustion engines, as well as its advantages and disadvantages. In addition, current research trends in ammonia-fuelled compressed (CI) and spark ignition (SI) engines are presented. Particular attention is given to the analysis of the effects of combining ammonia with more reactive fuels. In addition, the possibility of extending the operation of an SI ammonia engine by using a two-stage Turbulent Jet Ignition (TJI) system is explained.
